    • A pulse oximeter

A pulse oximeter is a method used to measure the oxygen saturation of arterial blood in a non-invasive manner. This method can measure oxygen-binding oxyhemeblobin (HbO2) as well as oxygen-free hemoglobin (Hb) by measuring blood. This determines their relative quantity. When is Pulse Oximetry Used? It is commonly used and has recently become very popular for analgesia during surgery, postoperative follow-up, and intensive care. This method is very convenient because it does not need to be calibrated, it works extremely accurately and reliably. Pulse oximetry is based on the absorption of light in tissues, where light is scattered by both arterial and venous blood hemoglobin, which is present in the tissues between the light source and the receiver. Direct light photodetectors are most commonly used.
